Born in 1968 to Pastor David R. Compton, one of the pioneers of the Jesus Revolution during the 1960s hippie movement, in the quaint town of Diamond Bar, CA, my upbringing unknowingly set me on a profound journey guided by God. Tragedy struck early in 1972 when I witnessed the accidental death of my father in front of our home, forever altering the course of my life.
The subsequent years brought unforeseen challenges and hardships. School became a battleground where I faced incessant bullying from peers and teachers alike, compounded by the absence of my father and the presence of an abusive mother. Coping with this tumultuous environment, I turned to alcohol at the tender age of 10, unwittingly spiraling further downward.
In high school, sports became my refuge from the chaos at home, but soon I found solace in the destructive allure of cocaine and marijuana. Desperate for change, I enlisted in the United States Marine Corps, seeking a new direction. While it offered glimpses of adventure and purpose, my struggles persisted, and I continued to grapple with faith, oscillating between fleeting encounters with God and the temptations of the world.
Marriage and fatherhood brought new responsibilities, but also fresh challenges. Despite the strain on my relationships, including the dissolution of my first marriage, I persevered as a single father to three children. Through the support of a surrogate family, the Welches, whose prayers never wavered, I began to glimpse the possibility of redemption.
In 2004, feeling adrift once more, I returned to church and pursued theological studies, seeking deeper spiritual fulfillment. Remarriage and the expansion of my family to six children marked a new chapter filled with both trials and blessings. Encouraged by the pastor of our church, I embarked on a journey of ministry, despite my own imperfections and past mistakes.
By 2015, my ministry had blossomed from simple devotionals shared on social media to a global platform spanning various online channels. God's guidance led me to write a book, speak at churches, and establish my own podcast studio. Through it all, I've come to realize the transformative power of the Holy Spirit in overcoming struggles and embracing God's grace.
Today, I urge others to seek the Lord and experience the profound change that comes with receiving the Holy Spirit. Let go of burdens, surrender to His will, and run the race of faith with endurance. May blessings and love abound in your journey.
In Christ's service,
